1. Drive
Powerful agents have the strong desire to work hard and long. They’re willing to give it all they got because they know what they want and why they want it. Develop your drive by focusing on your future success, and never give up.
2. Courage
In order to get things most others will never have, you must do the things others will never do. Forget worrying about what other people think.
3. Commit to your Goals
Powerful agents know exactly what they want and go after it. Get control of your life by following a schedule. Commit to accomplishing certain tasks every day and follow through.
4. Knowledge
Powerful agents never stop learning, they continually accumulate information. Never go to sleep at night without having learned at least one new thing each day. Read a book or a blog, listen to motivational speakers and talk to people about what you’ve learned.
5. Honesty
Powerful agents are frank, forthright and honest. If things go wrong do to something they did or failed to do, they take responsibility. Be willing to admit to your mistakes and learn from them.
6. Optimism
Powerful agents only doubt their limits. You should continuously focus your mind on the good and positive.
7. Ability to Judge
Powerful agents patiently think through a situation before they judge. Evaluate things with an opened mind, unprejudiced basis, and be willing to change your mind
8. Enthusiasm
Powerful agents are excited about what they are doing. Enthusiasm encourages others to cooperate with them.
9. Willingness to take chances
Overcome your fear of failure. Know that you will learn from your mistakes, don’t be afraid to take chances.
10. Dynamic Energy
Sitting at home won’t do anything for you, the Law of Attraction only works in conjunction with the Law of Action. Don’t expect business to come to you, you must actively seek it.
11. Outgoingness
Powerful agents are easily able to befriend people. Not only do they provide a lot of value to their friendships, but they help their friends grow. Be a ‘booster,’ not somebody who puts others down.
12. Ability to Communicate
Powerful agents are able to convey their ideas across to others. Learning to communicate properly will allow you to compel others to take action. Practice by doing, role play.
13. Patience
Be patient with others but always be impatient with yourself. The quote “patience is virtue” goes a lot further than you think.
14. Perception
Powerful agents have their mental radar working full time. Remember, it’s not about you, it’s about the person in front of you.
15. Perfectionism
Powerful agents cannot tolerate mediocrity, particularly in themselves. Never be easily satisfied with yourself. Always strive to do better. Complacency will kill your business.
16. Sense of Humor
Be willing to laugh at your own expense. Don’t take yourself so
seriously. There will be plenty of times when you’ll be embarrassed about something, just don’t let it get to you.
17. Versatility
People like people who are like themselves. If you continue to focus on yourself, you’ll forget to focus on making the client feel comfortable. It’s not about you, it’s about your client.
18. Adaptability
Being flexible allows you to adapt to changing circumstances.
Resist doing things the same old way. Be willing to consider new and different options.
19. Curiosity
An inquisitive, curious mind will help you seek out new information. Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know it all. Always ask questions about things you don’t understand.
20. Individualism
Do things the way you think they should be done, without fearing
other’s disapproval.
How many of the 20 charactersitics do you have?
I did a personal test and I was 19 out of 20. I will begin working on #20.
Aloha,
Keahi

Wow that is great! I am curious which is the one you need help with? Looking at all the characteristics, are there any that you can get better at? What are the action steps your planning to take, to make that happen?

I have to work on enthusiasm and dynamic energy. I’m more of a low key, quiet person.

The first thing you must stop doing Shlomit is labeling yourself as a low key, quiet person. Watch the second you start calling yourself as a powerful talkative person, you'll become that. Learn the art of affirmations.

I got 15 of 20. I need to work on: being more outgoing, patience, perfectionism, adatability and curiosity. I know that what I need to do to acheive them and for the most part try to do so, but unlike the others, they do not come naturally to me.

Well Jason, I want to add that most if not all these characteristics don't come natural to anyone. It's like a skill that you must work at and build stronger over time. Do you get what I mean?

Hi Neil,
Good Stuff 🙂 You taught me this many years ago, quite a bit has stuck, but now I am reaching higher levels that I can't even describe, and it is with all aspects of my life. I feel so very fortunate.
Thank You!!!!!

I think it's about really identifying an opportunity and the potential and knowing how to figure that out. So often you see ideas that you think, huh? Who's going to want that? The great ones have a great ability to figure out what the market will want.

Neil, After reading those 20 characteristics I don't think there is one of them I couldn't stand to really improve on. I loved the advice you gave Mark Dolan in focusing on the 3 of them for the next 30 days which would have the greatest impact on our business. I plan on studying those characteristics and determining TODAY what those 3 are for me. Then I will focus on those to help get the improvement I need. Thank you for all the great lessons and I'll look you up at the Retreat! Tom

You rock Kate, always fun to have more readers.

Let’s make it an even ’21’ by adding ‘compassion’ to the list. Without it, we cannot fully comprehend our client’s situation and needs – how else may we truly serve them effectively?
I have them all but I do need to work on no. 2, courage since I haven’t worked up the courage to completely get out of my comfort zone.

The one characteristic that stands out the most is drive, in other words what do I want? I focus on that every morning. Thanks Neil!

I’m glad you pointed out that a good real estate agent will be enthusiastic and easy to cooperate with. My husband and I are looking for a real estate agent to help us buy a home. I wasn’t sure what qualities to look for, so thanks for mentioning that enthusiasm is important!
[Reply]
These are some great characteristics you have listed here! Now if I were to sell my house, I’d for sure go with a real estate agent. I’d want one that would have all of these, but that probably isn’t likely. Either way, I’d be happy with just one out of all of these. I do think that knowledge is the most important since the market changes on a daily basis as they have to be on top of all of that.

I like that you brought up that an good agent will possess excellent communication skills. My uncle is looking for someone who can help him buy a new home. Maybe he should find an agent who can understand exactly what he is looking for.
