Zig Ziglar is an inspirational, professional speaker who made his living by helping salespeople make more money by turning UP their motivation. Zig used to say that motivation is like a shower, we need to take one every day!
The fact is… Motivation helps propel you forward, gets you to consistently work towards your goals and can help carry you through difficult times that inevitably come up in your business. Motivation = Money. You simply cannot have one without the other. If you want to be a money making machine you must learn to manufacture motivation.
Motive + Action = Motivation … so What Motivates You?
Figure it out … why are you working? Where do you want to go? What do you want to have? What do you want to do? Are working for your wife/husband, kids, to get out of debt, improve your lifestyle, to impress your neighbors? Everybody is motivated by different things. Some of us are motivated by the carrot; some by the stick. Figure out what your motive is and then taking action is EASY.
Why You Lose Motivation
When you think of motivation, you think of a powerful force inside that helps you reach a certain target. The challenge with that is two fold: you need to have a precise target and a plan of how to get there. Without a target and a plan your motivation will likely dissipate and ultimately disappear.
An Important Realization for YOU Right Now
Our dreams and goals won’t just land in our laps. Think about this , “Who do you know who did nothing at all and had their dreams come true (people who win the Lotto obviously do not count?) You hear about success stories from agents who do 30, 40, or 100+ deals a year; these stories get us excited and motivated to take action. Then, when we start working and we don’t quickly see the results we want we become disappointed in ourselves and oftentimes stop doing anything. Remember, agents who do a lot of business consistently have paid their dues to get where they are today, they have set goals, they have made and executed plans on how to reach their goals; they continue to work hard daily to maintain their level of success (most continue to set and reach higher production goals each year.) If you want to increase your production, it’s time for you to do the same.
You Will Create a Specific Target and Plan Out How to Get There Now
- STEP 1: Stop procrastinating, sit down and write down concrete goals for the year, month, each week and each workday. How many deals do you want to close each year? Are you going to be working with buyers, sellers or both? How are you going to get your business? Cold calling, door knocking, calling your sphere of influence, email campaigns, social media?
- STEP 2: Map out a plan for each workday; set specific goals for each day; when and whom you will be calling, how many doors you will knock, how many homes you will preview, how many contacts you will make… (If you are with Century 21 Masters, we will sit down with you and help you set goals and a plan of how to reach them, we will also hold you accountable to perform the actions you committed to.) Specific daily goals are a necessary part of your plan…they will keep you on track, without them you are likely to feel overwhelmed and lose focus. Your target will be easier to reach once you map out and complete what you have to do to get there.
You know this already… This business is hard. Very hard. You get rejected over and over and over again. It’s okay to feel down every once in a while, everyone does … that’s normal. Even if the pictures on your “dream board” don’t get you off and running, focus on completing your daily tasks. The more clear and concise you are with how you’ll structure and execute the plans in your business, the easier it will be for you to see results.
The more results you see, the more money you’ll make and obviously the success you desire. Motivation = Money! GET SOME NOW!
Absolutely Redefine your commitment and Goal to what it is that will move you forward or suffer in complacency. What's in your Wallet!
