People have probably suggested that you create a personal blog, but you don’t know how to start. Here are a few suggestions…
Select Your Target Audience
The first thing you must determine is your target audience. As an agent, your audience will most likely be people who have an interest in either buying or selling a home. Knowing this, you have a better idea of topics that your audience will find valuable and compelling enough for them to read.
Choose Valuable Content
Now that you have your target audience in mind, put yourself if their shoes…what would they be interest in reading about…Here are some suggestions:
- How to stage a home
- How to buy a house
- New Homebuyer Tax Credit
- Tips for showing your home
Providing videos isn’t necessary, but it definitely helps. If you do post videos, make sure to write a few paragraphs describing the video, this helps the reader and helps the search engines reference your page. Check out these articles on Tips for Selecting the Right Agent or market reports.
Set a Schedule
When is the best time to blog? Lorelle.wordpress.com, a leader in web based marketing and website analytics provides the following regarding blog viewers:
- The highest traffic in a month comes in the first and third weeks of a month, with more hits during the end of the month.( does that make sense?)
- The highest traffic days of the week are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
- The highest traffic in an average day comes during 8-2pm PST.
- Most comments are posted between 9-2pm PST
- People are more likely to comment on a post on a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Content is key, but consistency in posting helps you maintain and gain viewers. If you post consistently, for example, one a week on a certain day, you are showing a high level of professionalism and more past readers are likely to return to your site. Think of your favorite TV show….you probably make a mental note that the show airs every Tuesday, for example, so every week you think about tuning in to watch the show. The same concept applies to blogging.
Blogging for your real estate marketing can be an effective tool to attract new clients and maintain past clients. If you blog about real estate related topics that interest your audience and do so consistently, people will have your name in their minds when they think about real estate and will likely call you to discuss their real estate needs.

All of these are very good…video blogs? I must try to learn to do this. Sincerely, Saundra Allman

What a great video on staging! She’s very personable on video.
Regarding smells: Cleaning the house and opening windows are a great way to have it smell fresh, or not “smell”. Skip the potpourri and the plug-in fresheners. They simply mask odors and/or add too much fragrance that is clearly artificial. I always wonder what people are trying to hide when they use the plug-in fresheners.

You’re probably right on the Kate. I think it could be a great article for you to use on your blog.

How nice to have found you! I am enjoying reading, and learning from, your posts.
Video blogging is next on my “to learn and do” list. We did a trial run with me showing a house, and I was just… well… sad really. Not boo-hoo sad… just totally not-good-at-it sad. Practice, practice, practice *smile*

Be consistent and provide quality content and both your readership and SEO will grow. It really is that simple.
