The majority of extremely web savvy Realtors know what Dofollow and Nofollow means. For those of us who don’t let me give you a simple definition. There are Nofollow links and Dofollow links.
A NoFollow link is a website link that almost all web spiders WILL follow, but you do not acquire any kind of credit or value through that link. So, if you position a link on a website which has a high PR, the link does practically nothing for your search engine optimization compared to placing a link on a low PR site, when they are both Nofollow. Google cares very little about that, Yahoo appears to place a bit more value in link quantity, but overall such a link gives you little or no real benefit.
A Dofollow link holds the value of the actual link it comes from. A Dofollow link from a High PR site will likely be considered a far more valuable link than a Dofollow link coming from a low PR website. But regardless of whether the site is a high or low PR, the DoFollow link will always add value.
PR, also known as PageRank is a numeric value signifying how “important” a webpage is on the internet. According to Google whenever a single webpage links to another page, it is effectively casting “a vote” for the other site. The more votes which are cast for a site, the more “important” the actual site. At the same time, the significance of the page which is casting the vote has a bearing on how important the vote. The significance of each vote is taken into consideration whenever a page’s PageRank is determined. PageRank is Google’s method of determining a page’s “importance,” it is among the elements which establishes a page’s ranking in the search engine results. It is not the sole component that Google utilizes to rank pages, but it’s an important one.
At www.neilschwartz.net , we decided to encourage participation with “rewards.” Anyone who comments more than 5x on any of the blog articles on the website will have their link turned into a DoFollow link. Again this means that some of the “Google juice” from our site will be shared with your site which ultimately helps you rank higher on Google. Also, the top 5 “commentors” for the week receive a spot in the side bar which gives them a DoFollow link on every single one of our pages. That is really helpful for the agent’s website ranking.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me or leave a comment below. Our comments our heavily moderated and any spam won’t be tolerated. Only comments that have significance or value to the blog post will be permitted. Also, if you know of any more dofollow real estate blogs, let me know.
This was informative, Neil. Thank you very much. Have enjoyed your web offering 15-min tutorings on interesting, helpful, motivating, and humorous presentations you thoughtfully give here. Especially liked the time-mgmt & thought-provoking ideas on your “How to Earn $200,000 a Year While Enjoying 5 Months Off” video! Attending my first MIke Ferry Superstar Retreat this summer. Need to stay plugged in to good, motivating stuff, such as you offer on your site. Thank you much, Neil.

Neil Thanks for the information, I wasn’t familiar with NoFollow and DoFollow links and .
I’m in the process of designing my website. (my web developer is having a little trouble uploading the MLS idx to my website). Looks like I need to get on my web developer, and comment more on your blog posts to turn my weblink into a DoFollow link and increase my PR.

Excellent job of breaking down Nofollow/Dofollow into an easy to understand format Neil. One of the things many Dofollow seekers forget is relevancy. While Google still gives credit for links coming from a high PR, all things being equal, it’s more important to get high PR quality links from a like-industry source.

I enjoyed your description of dofollow and page ranking. Page rank is a really funny thing, you can get a very high number, but it doesn’t do much good without dofollow links with keywords. They all go hand in hand. While keywords provide search engines with the words you want your site to be found by, link juice(PR) is the muscle that pushes that keyword to the top.

Great summary of NoFollow and DoFollow. It’s getting harder and harder to find DoFollow blogs and that is a real shame – I think it discourages debate and discussion on a lot of interesting topics.
I can only hope that over time, the SEs will get so much more sophisticated and can ascertain the good places from the bad places, with less reliance on various sculpting techniques.

Hi Neil,
I like the way you use the DoFollow ‘lure’ to encourage comments on your blog. I’m a firm believer that having comments on your blog is a great way to increase your search engine ranking and overall traffic. I find that the questions and commentary in the comments often represent what the ‘market’ is wondering about. If people are asking it, even more people are searching for it, which gives the blog a better chance of being picked up by that traffic. And more traffic = more results for the blog owner.
There’s a second benefit to this as well. Since the search engines’ goal is to deliver the most pertinent results (because they derive their money from advertising, and their advertisers demand a highly targeted audience), they are constantly evolving to deliver those results. The more a blog can incite legitimate comments and debate, the more ‘real’ they become. If people are looking for it, the search engines want to deliver it. If the blog provides it, the SE’s deliver the blog. Then, the blog benefits.
So, I believe wading through the spam is well worth it. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t normally contribute content to a website that ‘nofollows’ everything. So just by having the added benefit of the potential DoFollow, this blog has increased it’s value and worth (provided that this comment is valuable and worthwhile…)
Have a great day,
Glen

I similar the way you use the DoFollow ‘lure’ to encourage comments on your journal. I’m a business friend that having comments on your journal is a large way to gain your operation engine ranking and coverall reciprocation. I deed that the questions and commentary in the comments ofttimes state what the ‘market’ is wondering about. If people are asking it, yet many grouping are intelligent for it, which gives the journal a alter chance of being picked up by that reciprocation. And author interchange = more results for the journal owner.
There’s a position help to this as rise. Since the look engines’ content is to have the most relevant results (because they descend their money from business, and their advertisers condition a highly targeted chance), they are constantly evolving to birth those results. The many a journal can provoke licit comments and debate, the solon ‘real’ they metamorphose. If fill are hunting for it, the investigate engines essential to produce it. If the journal provides it, the SE’s pass the diary. Then, the blog benefits.
So, I consider wading finished the spam is fountainhead couturier it. As a affair of fact, I wouldn’t ordinarily further cognition to a website that ‘nofollows’ everything. So conscionable by having the further goodness of the potency DoFollow, this blog has enlarged it’s worth and designer (provided that this report is precious and worthwhile…)
Have a zealous day,

Who would have thought I would get a nofollow lesson from a Real Estate blog! But well done and easy to understand format. So, I have to ask the blogs that decide to lure comments with dofollow how do they feel about keyword for the name? I know everyone has their own opinion on the matter but curious as to your thoughts on the subject?

Great article! Blogs are great ways to gather information on a certain subject. I think that is the best reason to blog and read blogs.
But your take on no follow and do follow is very interesting! I never knew any of this until a few months ago – and thanks to you I’m still learning.
Very informative and useful!

🙂 I think it’s a pretty excellent system! My website is handled through an external source, as is the blog, so I don’t know if there’s any way for me to do the same and make my comments do-follow.
